Services

  • Homestead Nutrition Project

The nutrition program provides hot meals, services and activities at 30 locations throughout northwest Kansas.  Home-delivered meals are available to qualifying homebound elderly.

  • Older Kansans' Information Service

This service provides confidential information regarding available services to senior citizens in the 18 county region and referrals to agencies that can best help.

  • Client Assessment, Referral and Evaluation (CARE)

Provides pre-admission screening for all individuals prior to admission to Medicaid certified nursing facilities in the State of Kansas.  The screening provides for individual assessment, referral to community based services, appropriate placement in long-term care facilities and data collection.

  • Agency on Aging News

Annual newsletter sent to those 60 and older upon request.  The newsletter includes articles on services, programs and issues of interest to seniors.

  • Senior Citizens Law Project

Free legal representation in specific areas of concern:  public benefits, landlord/tenant issues, appeals, wills and consumer issues.

  • Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK)

The SHICK program recruits and trains local volunteers to assist older adults with Medicare and supplemental insurance questions and concerns.

  • In-Home Services

In-home care programs are designed to assist older adults in maintaining and improving independence in their own homes and to minimize the need for institutionalization.  These programs may include personal care, homemaker services, respite care, chore services, and a host of other support services.  In-home services available include:  Senior Care Act, III-B, Home and Community Based Services.  Each client is assessed and assigned to the appropriate program based on level of needs and available income.  Depending on the program, there may be a co-payment for the service.

  • Case Management

Case Management services target adults aged 60 and older who are at risk for institutionalization.  The purpose is to ensure that older Kansans are made aware of all the options in community-based services and to facilitate coordination of these services on their behalf.

  • Family Caregiver Program

The Family Caregiver Program is designed to provide support services to families who are providing care for an older loved one at home.  These services include:  Information, Assistance, Education/Training/Support Groups, Respite Care, and a variety of Supplemental Services to fit the specific needs of each caregiving situation.

Funding

The NWKAAA receives funds through the Older Americans Act and the State of Kansas.  These funds are channeled through the Kansas Department on Aging (KDOA) in Topeka, Kansas.  In addition, counties served by the NWKAAA provide matching funds for local aging services.  Contributions from participants provide additional funding for service programs, such as providing nutritious meals.

Board and Advisory Council

The NWKAAA is governed by a Board of Directors who are appointees of the local county governments serviced by the Agency.  There is also an Advisory Council which reviews Agency programs and conducts public hearings on proposed services.  The Board employs a staff to carry out the Agency functions and maintains an office in Hays.
