Senior Companion Program

Description of Benefits / Services

Volunteer opportunity for low income persons.

Volunteers receive:

  • Hourly stipend of $2.65 (non-taxable)
  • Paid holiday, sick leave and vacation days
  • Transportation reimbursement

Supportive services volunteers provide include:

  • Personal care
  • Home management
  • Social interaction
  • Assistance with meal preparation
  • Transportation assistance.

Requirements

Providers of service must be:

  • 60 years of age or older
  • Income less than 125% of poverty  (200% after 10/1/09)
  • Able to work 20 hours a week
  • Reasonably good health
  • Willing to accept supervision

Recipients must be:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Physically, emotionally or socially in need of assistance
  • There is no charge for these services.
