Benefits for Senior CitizensTo bridge the gap between retirement incomes and today's prices, Congress and the state legislature have created a series of Public Benefit Programs to help senior citizens meet the cost of necessities like food, shelter and medical costs. Public benefits are your tax dollars coming back to you. They are a right you've earned through 60 plus years of hard work and good citizenship! These programs are designed to help those in greatest economic need, but at the same time, allow self-dignity. Today's Public Benefit Programs do NOT count the following when totaling your resources: Your home (if you reside in it), one car, household goods, $1,500 in life insurance, qualified funeral plans up to $3,000 and prepaid funeral merchandise. NOTE: Income guidelines, etc., change at various times during the year. Figures used were current in April 2009. Please call our office for the latest figures.
